Sketchbook Drop For September 21st, 2012

I had fully planned for this weeks sketchbook drop to be the final rendering of last weeks DARPA inspired S3 sketchbook drop but instead it is the refinement sketches for the project.

As I began to create the digital rendering for my design I just wasn’t satisfied with the proportion and placement of the podded legs. For one, why do I need four legs on both the lateral and medial? Am I building a shoe for the Incredible Hulk? It just didn’t make sense to me so I started breaking down where the pods should come from and determined to have them split from the natural path our foot moves in, heel to toe. Once I determined that I needed to rework where the armatures were connecting with the upper, which in return ment I had to rework the graphic of the design.

The main focus that the final design has is what I would describe as “aggressive purity”. Meaning that the design is clean, functional and pure but still very aggressive and purposeful.

The next step is to create the digital rendering. During that process I will add some more details and work out some minor proportion issues that only Illustrator can fix. So check back next week for the final rendering……hopefully.
